I stopped having migraines from my first session and after each following one I was having less headaches as well.
I do not have migranes anymore, now if I have a headache, its just once or twice a month . They are weak and do not last long.
I am very happy with the result and i would definitely recommend to do Craniosacral Therapy as I know from my experience how hard it is to find a solution from migraines. The quality of my life is increased and pain does not ruin my life anymore.
I had been suffering from headaches/migraines, as well as sinus problems for years. I had seen different doctors about these problems only to be given medication that left me feeling drowsy and with low energy, and never being able to pin point the cause of my migraines.
I felt that after each session I had with James, my body felt a lot more relaxed and more at ease. After the second session I noticed that my migraines were becoming less intense and the amount of times I had a migraine weekly became less and less. Before one session with James my sinuses were feeling fairly congested and inflamed and during and after the session I felt pressure release in my face and immediately felt clearing within my sinuses. By my fourth session my migraines were gone, I felt no more tension and I felt more aware of my body as a whole.
I am absolutely amazed with the results, after suffering from migraines almost daily and having to have taken many types of pain medication for them, I am grateful to have found a natural and pain free relief.
What causes migraines?
The cause of headaches is not fully understood & medical research continues. Usually medications are offered as a treatment and although effective in the short term, don’t always provide long term relief. Many clients often report feeling overwhelmed by their migraines as they are so painful, disabling & fatiguing. There is also fear or worry as to when the next one will occur.
From a Craniosacral perspective, migraines appear to be the result of strong hyperarousal of the nervous system which results in inflammation & tension of the dural membrane of the brain (among other tissues). Hyperarousal of the nervous system is part of our subconscious “fight or flight” response. This response is usually ignited by events that have caused us significant overwhelm – past or present.
Some causes of this response that can result in migraines are:
- Birth Trauma – if there has been a difficult birth or simply a pull in a direction that was excessive or alarming.
- Injuries – recent or old injuries can result in an unresolved tension pattern in the body, even if recovery seemed ok at the time.
- Surgery – this is very traumatic to the body, even if we are anaesthetised. Fight or flight is common.
- Dental Work – sometimes dental work can affect nerves, or create a tension pattern in the head & neck muscles
- Emotional Trauma – emotional events are very significant & can result in similar tension patterns as physical trauma
- Childhood trauma – lack of safety during childhood can result in a pattern of hyperarousal of the nervous system
- Stress / Fight or Flight – sustained fight or flight response that is unaddressed is very taxing to the body.
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy is a soft tissue treatment that works to release hyperarousal, trauma & deep tension patterns in the body – often the cause of migraines. The practitioner uses very light contact to work with the craniosacral system – the inherent tissue movements of the body.
Places of contact are often the feet, head and sacrum (tailbone), but the therapist will work where it is most appropriate to address your issue. A typical treatment is usually around 40 minutes.
How Craniosacral helped my headaches
The first migraine i had was at age 15, straight after drinking a can of Pepsi. After that I had frequent migraines & had to take pain killers & go to bed for the day to sleep it off.
After a few years my migraines evolved into headaches, but became more frequent. I also had back pain at the time, and was trying a number of therapies for this including: Chiropractory, Osteopathy, Cranial-osteopathy & Physiotherapy.
It wasn’t until I couldn’t get a booking with one osteopath, that I stumbled on Craniosacral Therapy. In the session I noticed a core stretching sensation that I had never experience before. I noticed steady relief to my back pain in each session & for the first time I felt like I was getting somewhere.
But… surprisingly… I also started to notice improvements to my headaches.
Intrigued, I decided to continue with the sessions, and before long had complete headache relief!
